Help My Aging Parents
- Elder Care
The mission of Help My Aging Parents is to empower and educate adult children to be ready to step in when their aging parents need assistance. Unfortunately many families wait till a crisis has occurred before stepping in. Instead families need to plan ahead before problems become insurmountable.
Clients (the adult child) will receive education about how, and when, to initiate the 'Conversation' with aging parents, will learn about resources and services available in the community, as well as, housing modifications, financial, legal, long term care options, and end of life issues. These are all areas which, if planned for, enable the older parents to continue to age in their home safely. The client may also be the older parents themselves who want to, but are unsure how to, engage their adult children in planning for when they require assistance.
The Help My Aging Parents philosophy centers around maintaining the autonomy and dignity of the older adult, therefore, it is considered essential that the older adult be part of the decision making process, to the greatest extent possible, around their own future.
